Our organization is built on an army of volunteers. Whether you are guiding a blind cyclist, assisting at sled hockey practice, or teaching someone to ski in Girdwood, we would love to welcome you to our team.

Para Sport

Anchorage Para Sport Volunteers

Community & Field Sports

Volunteers work directly with Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists (CTRS) to assist athletes with physical and visual disabilities during practices, trips, and tournaments.

  • 5-A-Side Football (Blind Soccer) assistants
  • Sled Hockey coaches and equipment support
  • Nordic (Cross Country) Skiing & Biathlon guides
  • Gears & Gravel 5-day off-road bike trip support
  • Denali National Park 5-day summer camp helpers
  • Road & Off-road Para Cycling guides
  • Goalball, Hiking, and Beep Baseball support
  • Event photographers to document programs
  • Wheelchair Basketball, Lacrosse, and Tennis helpers

Training Provided

No prior adaptive sports experience is required. Challenge Alaska provides all necessary safety orientation, guide training, and equipment certifications.

Our next training sessions will run prior to the winter and summer seasonal program launches.

Girdwood Ski & Ride School Volunteers

On-Snow Adaptive Guides & Leads

Our Girdwood Adaptive Ski & Ride School runs from December to April at Alyeska Resort. Volunteers support lessons and assist with adaptive ski rigs. Positions include:

Ski Leadd & Ski Shadow instructors
Snowboard (SB)) Lead & SB Shadow instructors
Bi-Ski Leadd & Bi-Ski Shadow helpers
Mono-Ski Leadd & Mono-Ski Shadow helpers
Slider Leadd and Ski-EZY setup assistants
3-Track and 4-Track adaptive skiing guides

02 · Orientation & Screening

Complete a standard background check, safety screening, and attend our program orientation.

03 · Select Program Dates

Sign up for specific weekly shifts or sign up for single-day volunteer event spots.
